In this class you will learn how to paint with gouache an opaque water-based paint with a creamy velvety finish that dries matte. Gouache is a versatile medium because it has a higher pigment.
It can be used in a creamy consistency that leaves a matte finish or it can be watered down and used like watercolor leaving a transparent and translucent layer.

Paints
It is important to invest in good quality paints to obtain nice results with this medium.
My recommendation is to buy a basic set from Winsor and Newton that gives you the best quality and you can learn how to mix the colors to obtain the secondary and tertiary colors. You can find this set HERE. Also, I recently found a cheaper set that the tubes are smaller, but you get more colors. It will work great for this class too. Brushes
Synthetic paintbrushes: One half-inch angle shader, a quarter-inch filbert brush, a size 8 round brush, and a size two round brush. These are basic suggested brushes to bring to class.

Paper
These are the recommended papers for gouache:
Any watercolor paper 140 lb/ 300 gm. Some artists recommend Hot press watercolor paper because of the smooth surface. However, you can use the cold press paper too. Here are some brands you can purchase:

Gouache Palette
It is better to use a flat porcelain palette for mixing gouache colors. This I ordered and is a good option. You can purchase HERE
Also if you want to buy a cheaper option I found at Daiso a nice flat white porcelain plate that can work too as a palette. Remember you need space to mix the colors
General Supplies
- Paper towels
- Masking tape
- Two water containers. Use one to wash and the other one to mix water into the paint. These water containers are very useful. These items are totally optional if you want you can purchase HERE
- Pencil and eraser for sketching.
