Fall 2025 Art Classes at LGS Recreation

This fall, Iā€™ll be offering exciting new classes at LGS Recreation! Get an introduction to five different mediums in the Five Mixed Media Bundle class. You can take all five classes at a discounted rateā€”including materials feesā€”or choose to enroll in individual sessions.

In addition to the regular Watercolor Live Instruction classes, Iā€™ll be offering two new workshops this fall called “Watercolor Landscapes: From Photo to Art.” In these workshops, youā€™ll learn how to transform your favorite photos into beautiful watercolor landscapes, step by step.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Elvira Rascov, an accomplished Colombian American artist, loves to render nature in watercolors and oils. Elvira has taken her art a notch further, and used these painting techniques to create groovy functional ceramics.
Inspired by her early teachers in BogotĆ”, Elvira teaches Art throughout the Bay Area, making painting fun and expressive.
When she is not busy capturing the soft California landscapes with its soothing hues of yellows and greens, she is experimenting with cityscapes.

Two New Art Workshops in April

Two new art workshops are coming in April at LGS Recreation. Mark your calendar and register on the links below. Two Saturday classes to explore two different mediums.

SCRATCHBOARD ILLUSTRATION – EASTER BUNNY Workshop

Date: Saturday April 15th, 2025

Time: 10 am to 12:30 pm

About this Course

Learn how to draw an Easter Bunny on scratchboard. Scratchboard art is a type of engraving that uses a sharp tool to scratch away black surface to reveal a white color. Think of it as reverse drawing – instead of making dark marks on a white paper, you create light marks on a dark surface to create an image. Scratchboard art it is commonly used to create realistic portraits of animals.

Materials provided with $5 fee.

GOUACHE LANDSCAPES Class

Date: Saturday April 26, 2025

About this Course

In this class you will learn to paint landscapes with gouache (opaque watercolor). Gouache is a wonderful medium that allows you to layer bold colors with different blending techniques. The instructor will have a project for the class where you can paint-a-long while you familiarize yourself with gouache paint by exploring tones, brushstroke techniques and understanding color combinations. No previous experience or knowledge is required for this class.

Materials for this class

Gouache paints a selection of primary colors plus black and white (Winsor and Newton brand)

Synthetic paintbrushes: One half inch angle shader, a quarter inch filbert brush, a size 8 round brush, and a size two round brush. These are basic suggested brushes to bring to class.

Watercolor paper 120 LB

A palette to mix your paints.

A detailed list of materials will be sent to you when you sign up for the class.

New Art Classes Starting in 2025

I am excited to announce new art classes this coming January at LGS Recreation while we also continue with the Watercolor classes you enjoy.

Under Creative Arts session you will discover this new classes:

NEW 5 Mixed Mediums- Discovery Bundle
Discover new ways of art expression. Take an individual class or
experiment with all 5 mediums and receive a discount. Materials
provided: $5 each class. Instructor: Elvira Rascov


ALCOHOL INK ON YUPO Alcohol inks provide intense color and
bright white surface of the yupo paper helps intensify the vibrancy
of the painting. The alcohol inks will glide across the surface creating
different effects. Make a floral painting and experiment with color
combinations and other techniques.


COLORED PENCIL DRAWING A tool that brings depth and vibrancy
to art, regardless of skill level. Follow step by step instruction to
create a vibrant bird. Learn methods of blending colors to create
the illusion of different textures, highlights and shadows.


PRINTING PRESS MONO PRINT Unlike other printmaking
processes that produce multiple identical copies a monoprint
is only one impression. Use a plexiglass board to make a design
with watercolor crayons. Transfer to a watercolor paper using the
printing press.


SCRATCHBOARD ILLUSTRATION Draw by engraving using a sharp

a sample illustration of a children book image using a variety
of watercolor techniques from basic to advance. Make a more
captivating image for young readers using watercolor, ink and
watercolor pencils.
