Watercolor Children’s Book Illustration

Play with a sample illustration of a children book image using a variety of watercolor techniques from basic to advance. Make a more captivating image for young readers using watercolor, ink and watercolor pencils.
Unlike other printmaking processes that produce multiple identical copies a mono print is only one impression. Use a plexiglass board to make a design with watercolor crayons. Transfer to a watercolor paper using the printing press.
Draw by engraving using a sharp tool to scratch away black surface to reveal a white color. Think of it as reverse drawing. Instead of making dark marks on a whitepaper, you create light marks on a dark surface to create an image. Commonly used to create realistic portraits of animals.
Learn how to draw with charcoal. Develop your observational skills by drawing still life objects. Explore the fundamentals and techniques of drawing with charcoal such as achieving depth, tone, and form through shading and observation, suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.

Two new art workshops are coming in April at LGS Recreation. Mark your calendar and register on the links below. Two Saturday classes to explore two different mediums.
Learn how to draw an Easter Bunny on scratchboard. Scratchboard art is a type of engraving that uses a sharp tool to scratch away black surface to reveal a white color. Think of it as reverse drawing – instead of making dark marks on a white paper, you create light marks on a dark surface to create an image. Scratchboard art it is commonly used to create realistic portraits of animals.
In this class you will learn to paint landscapes with gouache (opaque watercolor). Gouache is a wonderful medium that allows you to layer bold colors with different blending techniques. The instructor will have a project for the class where you can paint-a-long while you familiarize yourself with gouache paint by exploring tones, brushstroke techniques and understanding color combinations. No previous experience or knowledge is required for this class.
Materials for this class
Gouache paints a selection of primary colors plus black and white (Winsor and Newton brand)
Synthetic paintbrushes: One half inch angle shader, a quarter inch filbert brush, a size 8 round brush, and a size two round brush. These are basic suggested brushes to bring to class.
Watercolor paper 120 LB
A palette to mix your paints.

ALCOHOL INK ON YUPO Alcohol inks provide intense color and bright white surface of the yupo paper helps intensify the vibrancy of the painting.
