Dive into the vibrant world of gouache painting—a fun, flexible medium that combines the best qualities of watercolor and acrylic. In this class, you’ll learn how to paint beautiful landscapes using bold colors, layering techniques, and playful brushwork.
We’ll work on a step-by-step landscape project together, so you can paint along while gaining hands-on experience with brushstrokes, tonal values, and color combinations. Whether you’re brand new to painting or simply curious about gouache, this class is welcoming to all skill levels—no prior experience needed.

Materials for This Class
To get the most out of the class, please bring the following materials:
Paints
- Gouache paint set with primary colors, black, and white
(Winsor & Newton recommended)
Brushes
- ½ inch angle shader
- ¼ inch filbert
- Size 8 round
- Size 2 round
Paper & Supplies
- Watercolor paper, 120 lb or heavier
- Mixing palette for blending colors
A detailed materials list will be emailed to you two weeks before the class begins, giving you plenty of time to prepare.
Instructor
Elvira Rascov, an accomplished Colombian American artist, loves to render nature in watercolors and oils. Elvira has taken her art a notch further, and used these painting techniques to create groovy functional ceramics.
Inspired by her early teachers in Bogotá, Elvira teaches Art throughout the Bay Area, making painting fun and expressive.
When she is not busy capturing the soft California landscapes with its soothing hues of yellows and greens, she is experimenting with cityscapes.
