Watercolor Live Instruction classes Fall 2026

Fall Watercolor Classes & Workshops

This fall, I’m excited to offer a variety of watercolor classes and workshops for artists of all skill levels. New this season, I am introducing Monday Morning Watercolor Live Instruction Classes, offered in two six-week sessions in the Large Hall, providing a spacious and comfortable environment to paint and learn together. Classes are held at Los Gatos Adult Recreation Center 208 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA.

Session 1: September 14 – October 19 (6 classes)
Session 2: November 2 – December 14 (6 classes, no class November 23)

Fall Workshop

Watercolor Landscapes: From Photo to Art (Expanded Format)

This expanded workshop gives you more time to complete your painting. If you’ve taken this workshop before, you’re welcome to return to finish a previous painting or begin a new one with additional guidance.

Watercolor Landscapes from Photo to Art Fall 2026 Class

Instructor: Elvira Rascov

I’m excited to bring back one of my most popular watercolor workshops—Watercolor Landscapes: From Photo to Art! This fall, the workshop has been expanded into a two-day class, giving you even more time to explore the watercolor process and develop your painting skills.

If you’ve ever wanted to transform an ordinary photograph into a beautiful, expressive watercolor painting, this class is for you. Whether you’re relatively new to watercolor or already have some experience, you’ll learn practical techniques that will help you paint with greater confidence while developing your own artistic style. Some previous watercolor experience is recommended.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover how to:

Use a photograph as the foundation for a watercolor painting.
Simplify complex landscapes by identifying light and shadow.
Create luminous color through layering, mixing, and texture.
Understand the importance of value sketches for building strong compositions.
Follow the complete painting process—from selecting a reference photo and planning your composition to sketching and completing an expressive watercolor painting.

Choose from a variety of reference photos provided during class, or bring your own personal photograph to paint from. (Please note that only personal photos may be used.)

Materials to Bring

Please bring the following supplies:

9″ × 12″ cold press watercolor paper
Basic watercolor paint set
Round watercolor brushes (sizes 4, 6, and 10)
Rigger brush for fine details
Drawing board or clipboard
Two water containers
Masking tape
Paper towels

A detailed supply list will be emailed one week before class.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is ideal for watercolor painters with a little previous experience who are ready to build confidence and strengthen their skills in a supportive, relaxed environment.

Rather than focusing on completing a finished painting during class, we’ll concentrate on learning a repeatable process that will help you create stronger compositions, better understand color and value, and paint more expressive landscapes from your own photographs.

I look forward to sharing this creative journey with you and helping you discover new ways to bring your landscape photos to life with watercolor. I hope you’ll join me this fall!

Get into the holiday spirit and create something truly personal this season! Join me for a fun and inspiring Watercolor Holiday Cards Workshop, where you’ll design and paint three original watercolor cards to share with family and friends.

About This Course

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, glazing, and masking to reserve whites and build depth and texture in your artwork. I’ll provide beautiful holiday-themed reference images, and you’ll paint along step-by-step to create your own set of festive cards.

Whether you’re new to watercolor or looking to expand your creative skills, this class offers a relaxed and encouraging environment to learn, paint, and celebrate the season.

Materials

Basic materials for this class include:

140lb / 300gsm watercolor paper
Basic watercolor paint set
Watercolor brushes: rounds #4, #6, #10 or #12, and a rigger brush for details
Low-tack masking tape
Masking fluid
Black ink liner (Micron 0.3 or 0.5, or Faber-Castell equivalent)

You can make your cards simply by folding watercolor paper in half, or use ready-made watercolor postcards—both work beautifully.

A detailed materials list will be emailed to all participants one week prior to class.

In these fun courses students will have the opportunity to practice and learn basic to advance techniques in watercolor. SAMPLES OF PAINTINGS FOR THESE CLASSES

Learn how to paint delicate flowers in watercolor using the wet and wet and color blending techniques.

Birds are fun to paint in watercolor, their delicate shapes and colors are very special and watercolor is the medium that helps enhance their beauty.

Learn blending and special brush techniques that will help you paint birds in watercolor.

Food is a fun subject to paint in watercolor. A lot of detail can be capture with this medium. Learn how to use blending techniques to create different shades of color.

EXPERIMENTING WITH GOUACHE / Winter class

Opaque watercolor is a medium that allows you to layer bold
colors with different blending techniques. With a project for each
class, paint-a-long and familiarize yourself with gouache paint by
